Frontiers in Antibiotic Drug Discovery – symposium in Stockholm 14-15 September

The target groups of the symposium are scientists and representatives from small and medium-sized enterprises and the pharmaceutical industry working in the field of antibacterial drug discovery. The aims are to look into the future, at where and how new antibiotics will be discovered, and to discuss the challenges that need to be addressed in developing them. The lectures will be given by leading international scientists in the field. There will also be a poster session.

Free online courses in pharmaceutical bioinformatics

Uppsala University is offering a number of free internet based courses focusing on pharmaceutical bioinformatics. Target groups of the courses include researchers, teachers and students interested in learning how complex biological processes can be studied down to the chemical level of detail with the help of informatics and how it can be used for understanding life processes and to develop drugs and improved pharmacotherapy.

Smögen Symposium on Virology 25-27 August; registration deadline 20 June

The Smögen Symposium on Virology 2016 will be held 25-27 August at Smögens Havsbad.

The registration fee ranges from 3700-5950 SEK (excluding VAT) and includes accommodation, food and bus trip Göteborg-Smögen round trip.

Postdoctoral research opportunities in Infection Biology and Molecular Infection Medicine at Umeå University – application deadline 15 August

Several positions are open for postdoctoral candidates interested to do research in the highly interactive and multidisciplinary research environment UCMR – Umeå Centre for Microbial Research. UCMR includes The Laboratory for Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS) – the Swedish node of The Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. UCMR-MIMS researchers combine a strong molecular infection biology programme with chemical biology to clarify molecular mechanisms of microbial infections.

The programme is open to all nationalities and features of the positions include:

  • Development of a project proposal forms the basis for recruitment
  • Funding for research within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Two years of secure funding
  • Access to UCMR-MIMS-affiliated core facilities and technical platforms.

PhD student networking opportunity in Germany 21-23 June – registration deadline 30 May

The Helmholtz Graduate School for Infection Research (HZI Grad School/GS FIRE) in Braunschweig, Germany, is inviting NDPIA PhD students to their retreat 21-23 June (in the Harz). The retreat is mandatory for all HZI Grad School PhD students and NDPIA PhD students who want to join the retreat will receive a maximum of 6000 SEK for co-funding of travel costs (accommodation is free of charge).

At the retreat all participants will present their research either via a personal poster or via a cross topic presentation where 2-3 persons are presenting together. There will be many opportunities for networking both during the scientific parts of the retreat and during social events.
