Young Microbiologists Symposium on Microbe Signalling, Organisation and Pathogenesis

The Young Microbiologists Symposium (YMS) 27-28 August is intended to bring together graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to discuss their current research. The symposium, held in Belfast, will provide an excellent opportunity for junior scientists to present their work and receive constructive feedback, to network with other students, post-docs and young PIs in the field, and hopefully to facilitate future collaborations.

The two-day programme will include seminars by 14 invited speakers, a poster session involving all participants, and opportunities for social interaction. There will be four seminar sessions, covering the highly topical areas of prokaryotic molecular microbiology mentioned below. Each of the sessions will be led by a senior internationally-regarded scientist, who will give an introductory talk covering their area of interest and facilitate subsequent discussion.

  • Gene regulation and signalling;
  • Infection and immunity;
  • Secretion and transport across membranes;
  • Antibiotics and Resistance mechanisms.

In addition, EMBO, Arthur Mitchell Brown Memorial, and SCELSE funded lectureships will be presented by Prof. Regine Hengge (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin), Prof. Alain Filloux (Imperial College London), Prof. Kimberly Kline (Nanyang Technological University) and Prof. Liang Zhao-Xun (Nanyang Technological University).  Additional talks will be selected from the abstracts to provide students and post-docs an opportunity to give an oral presentation.
