Molecular Virology and Pathogenesis Course

About the course

The aim of this course is to provide a broad and in-depth knowledge in the field of Molecular virology, with a special focus on pathogenesis. Senior Swedish and international researchers will give lectures and lead discussions on important virus families and the diseases they cause. An overall goal of the course is to understand how virus cause specific clinical symptoms and what host and virus factors are important in the pathogenesis. The course also includes presentations and poster sessions where participants can communicate their research, time for group discussions and networking activities.

Dates and venue

The course will be held 19th (starting at lunch) – 21st of August, 2024 in Smögen, at the west coast of Sweden. The venue is Smögens Havsbad smogenshafvsbad.se same as for the Smögen Symposium of Virology, which starts directly after the course on the 22nd of August. Bus transfer from Gothenburg to Smögen will be arranged on the morning of Monday the 19th. The registration fee covers food and accommodation from Monday 19th (lunch) until Thursday 22nd (breakfast), including access to pool, sauna and spa.

Who can apply?

Registered PhD students and postdocs working in virology are welcome to apply. In case of many applications, PhD students will have priority. For registered full members (both postdocs and PhD students) of the National Doctoral Programme in Infection and Antibiotics (NDPIA), the course fee will be paid by NDPIA if you share a room with another participant and if you provide a support letter from your supervisor. NDPIA full members may also apply for co-funding of travel costs after you have attended the course. Instructions for co-funding may be found here:
